Wave No. F133
Molded in White and Black
Multi-media kit includes white metal and photo-etched parts
Avg. retail: $45.00

When I first saw these kits a few years ago, I was disappointed that they were curbsides. At the time I was a Tamiya snob, and I demanded engine detail.

After passing it by at the local hobby shop for about 5 years, I was interested to see the Tyrrell marked down to almost half price. Feeling it needed a home, I grabbed it.

At first the contents were a disappointment. Sink marks on the bodywork, very few pieces (even for a curbside), and odd instructions were evident.

But a closer examination proved this to be a little gem of a kit. White metal pieces make up the front wing and rear diffuser, adding some substance to the chassis. The wheels and tires are excellent, and there are a couple of photo-etched details for the rear wing. Aside from a curious assembly process for the body, the build process is very straightforward.

And it's incredibly simple. the front and rear suspension are one-piece fold-over contraptions the likes of which I've never seen before. But it all makes sense and promises to be a fun project. Stay tuned for a full report in the coming months.
