1/24 McLaren M1B
Model, Text, and Photos by Tony Willing
This is my McLaren M1B, as raced by Bruce McLaren at Laguna Seca, 16 October 1966, and built from pictures found in the book "Can-Am", by Pete Lyons/Classic Motorbooks.
The kit is the R&D Unique/MiniExotics McLaren M1B, kit RDU-2847. Paint is Testors Italian Red, decals are from the MiniEx kit with the exception of the white stripes, which are from SuperScale sheet SS3-N.
Front and rear spoilers were fashioned from sheet styrene, and the exhaust pipes were cut from aluminum tubing and painted flat black.
I cut a brake cooling duct into the right front fender to match the car "as raced", and the gold-lines on the tires were drawn with a gold gel-pen and a circle template.
