Here is the latest project from Eric Evain. It's the 1997 Prost AP01, which is a 1/20 kit from Hobby Base Custom in Japan. Following are some of Eric's notes on building this kit. (KJS)
The Hobby Base kit is a resin kit. In fact it's really a big 1/43 kit. I used many of the same techniques that I would for a 1/43 kit.
The body is quite accurate and easy to work and sand. The
engraving needs to be deeper, though.
The assembly instructions are correct and don't need corrections.
Of course, you must test-fit the assemblies before gluing the
parts.
I used professional automotive paint for my model. This kind
of paint is harder and finer than model kit paint like Tamiya
and Humbrol. For the Prost blue a coachbuilder mixed the color
for me, because it's a special blue.
After I applied the decals, I varnished my model with automotive varnish. I used Sikkens paint and varnish. That type of paint and varnish uses 3 components: paint (or varnish), thinner and hardener.
Thanks Eric!
