1/24 Alfa Romeo 2900B by Johan Brusefalt

This is the Scale Kraft Alfa Romeo 2900B from Le Mans 1938. I posted some of my first impressions on the GPMA mailing list and this, I suppose, is the follow-up. Generally the shapes are very good. The car gives the impression of being huge, which I consider to be correct.

Weak points of the kit are:

Roof shape - The roof was sanded down after beeing strengtened from below. No problems.

Grill opening - The grill opening was extensively enlarged, but the bottom part of the front would still need some work (should be slightly lower still?).

Overall length - The fact that the model has the correct wheelbase for the original chassis, instead of the shortened one that was actually used, came as a total surprise when the model was done (actually when comparing it to the Profil 24 kit). It should be shortened by some 12-18mm, mainly between the A-pillar and the front axle.

PE parts - The photo-etched parts are barely usable.

PE grille - The grille is far too small even for the already too small grille opening. Besides that, it should be bent both vertically and horisontally. I used aluminum net found at an office store (Thanks to Lars-Olof!).

The general Scale Kraft home made charm - I used the front lights (slightly modified) from the TAMIYA 1/12 Yamaha Virago (Thanks to Lennart Bodin, R.I.P)

All this put together and the fact that I like the car better with the black grille and wheels (and fender skirts) made me choose to model the car as it looked when it was delivered to the Alfa factory.

Paint used is TAMIYA TS-8 Italian Red (Thanks to Tania and Gary!) and it looks deep enough to my eyes.

Should I build another one, I'd still use the Scale Kraft kit, but use the PE and the paint guide provided in the Profil 24 kit.

What a stunning model - Thanks Johan! - kjs
